Buying Social Justice

Prof Christopher McCrudden, University of Oxford
Seminar: 11 October 2007

Abstract: In his thoughtful and provocative talk, Professor McCrudden drew on his recent book "Buying Social Justice" (Oxford) to present an overview of the way in which public procurement policy might be used for social purposes. The key message concerned the complexity and contradictions that face governments: although the attractions of applying social criteria (for example, to bolster anti-discrimination policy) are great, the legal and ethical consequences are not straight-forward.
