The Meaning of CSR: Perspectives of an Indian Entrepreneur

Mr Subroto Bagchi, Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer, MindTree Consulting.
Seminar: 22 November 2007

Mr Bagchi's talk provided insights into the meaning of corporate social responsibility among Indian firms and business leaders, and how this meaning guides them toward particular activities and away from others. As a highly successful entrepreneur and known leader in the practice of social responsibility, Mr Bagchi sketched out a holistic meaning of CSR and offered concrete guidelines for social engagement by firms and individuals within them.

His talk highlighted the distinctive approach taken by MindTree Consulting in seeking to learn from the voluntary sector, and make interaction with third sector organisations a central element in the firm's identity. He explained how good CSR practices bring mutual benefits to firms and to Indian society alike, and therefore offer a good basis for discussing the relationship between the success of the private sector in India and the growth and development of the country as a whole.
