Abstract: The carboNZero programme has engaged New Zealanders and New Zealand companies from all sectors of the economy in taking action to reduce their impacts on climate change. The programme and its tools have their genesis in research programmes that have contributed to both the development of national climate change policies and to the development of practical tools for the business community. Since September 2006, the programme has experienced unprecedented interest from both public and private sectors and its patrons include government ministers including the Prime Minister. This presentation will cover the design and implementation of greenhouse gas measurement tools available through the carboNZero programme for organisations, products and services, and events. It will also explore the challenges faced by both the programme itself and its clients in aspiring to achieve carbon neutral status with the highest credibility and integrity and avoiding accusations of greenwash.
