Dr Heinz-Gerd Peters, Head of Sustainable Development and Environment, Deutsche Telekom AG
Thursday 13th May 2010, 17.00-18.30
Seminar Room B, Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.

Abstract: For Deutsche Telekom AG as a large multinational ICT company operating in a highly competitive environment, procurement is a very important function. More and more goods and services are directly or indirectly purchased in the so called low cost countries such as China, India or Mexico. The increased importance of risk management in procurement, especially based on sustainability issues, has led to the development of a sustainable procurement strategy and standardised processes around it including, for example, Social Audits and Evaluation. A special Sustainable Procurement Working Group consisting of people from Procurement and Corporate Responsibility is the first point of contact and is responsible for all issues around sustainable procurement. To reduce risks and to improve the supply chain diverse instruments and tools have been developed and implemented. This seminar will examine strategic approaches to sustainable procurement and the management of risks in the supply chain, and will address opportunities and problems in supplier relationships.
